26 July, 2010 Training and Socialization of Young Roma Activists into Positions of Political and Civic Leadership in Bulgarian State and Society

The second seminar of the IRIS project title Training and Socialization of Young Roma Activists into Positions of Political and Civic Leadership in Bulgarian State and Society took place on July 23 in Vladaya Club nearby Sofia. The topic of the session was advocacy training, strategic plan development, coalition building and negotiating with authorities. Lectures were delivered by Dr. Haralan Alexandrov, Marin Lessenski, Dr.Ognayn Minchev. Georgy Metodiev - political scientist and instructor in advocacy process presented advocacy process in practical terms and coordinated sessions on advocacy cases with the participants.


June 22, 2010 Training and Socialization of Young Roma Activists into Positions of Political and Civic Leadership in Bulgarian State and Society

IRIS has started a project of young Roma leaders' training under the title Training and Socialization of Young Roma Activists into Positions of Political and Civic Leadership in Bulgarian State and Society. On June 21 the first training seminar took place in the central building of the Sofia University campus. Dr. Ognyan Minchev and Dr. Ilona Tomova have delivered lectures on contemporary Bulgarian political system and the instruments of empowering minority communities within the political institutions. 22 young Roma intellectuals and civic activists from all over the country have been selected to attend the training program.

April 19, 2010 IRIS organises the pilot Black Sea Young Reformers conference in Varna

On April 15-18, 2010, the Institute for Regional and International Studies, Sofia, and the Centre for Applied Policy Research, Munich, organised the first conference that was part of the pilot issue of the project Black Sea Young Reformers Fellowship (BSYRF) - ‛Security, Development and Regional Cooperation in the Black Sea Area‛. The event took place in the Black Sea resort of Golden Sands near Varna, Bulgaria, and was realised in partnership with the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation (a project of the German Marshall Fund of the United States) and Germany’s Robert Bosch Stiftung.
