| 14.03.2008 Macedonia's Stability and NATO |
 |
Macedonia has been expecting membership invitation to NATO at the upcoming Bucharest Summit in April 2008. The enlargement of NATO towards the three Southeast European candidates of Albania, Croatia and Macedonia has been viewed as immense stabilizing factor, especially for the vulnerable Republic of Macedonia. Today however, the chances for invitation appear very slim because of Athen’s veto on Macedonia’s name.
Dr. Ognyan Minchev takes this case as a point of departure to explain the larger framework of underlying regional and local factors, which inject instability in this context. In the article Dr. Minchev also offers approaches to remedy the situation and prevent the collapse of this still fragile Balkan state. You can download the arcticle ‛Shall We Invite Macedonia Into NATO? Approaches to the Future Strategic Balance of the Balkans‛ here.
